About UDC and Mechanical Engineering Department:

UDC is the District of Columbia’s land grant public university located in the USA capital city of Washington DC. UDC offer BS to Ph.D. degrees. UDC is located at the site of former National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST)campus and was once the site of revolutionizing discoveries. UDDC has started Ph.D. program in the engineering and computer science with several focus areas including Nanotechnology, Additive Manufacturing, Renewable energy, Nanoscale Heat Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled Engineering. UDC has recruited numerous highly research-active engineering faculty and rapidly transforming from a teaching focus university to teaching +research focus university to serve diverse students. Mechanical engineering is one of the happening and progressive departments at UDC. Our Mechanical Engineering faculty have won ~$20 Million grants and contracts in the last two years to support cutting edge research. Our Mechanical Engineering faculty collaborate with world-renowned institute and organizations such as NIST, Naval Research Laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Department of Energy production plants, Biomedical engineering firms, etc. Most of the students find internships during summer at NASA, NRL, NIST, ORNL, etc. UDC is also one of the most affordable university. Our four-year BS program cost less than the one-year cost at a typical university. Yet we offer very high-quality education to make our students successful in a very warm and caring environment. Our students are currently employed at Boeing, NASA, Northrop Grumman, NIH, Howard Hughes Medical Institution, Sandia National Laboratory and doing doctoral study at ORNL.

The Mechanical the engineering department has fully embraced the UDC mission as an HBCU (historically black college and university) to provide a 21st-century education and research training to minority students. We offer competent funding opportunities, internships, and on-campus research experience to our students in our state of the laboratories and Centers such as

  • Center of Nanotechnology Research and Education.

  • Center of Advanced Manufacturing

  • Center of Excellence in Renewable Energy

Please stay tuned for career and educational opportunities. We are currently seeking postdoctoral scholar, nanotechnology lab engineer, and grant coordinators. We also have openings for 7-10 funded Ph.D. students, (minority students are strongly encouraged to apply).
